The Effects of Islamic Religion on Maintaining the Territorial Integrity
(Part 46)
The Continuation of the Matter:
Social life (whether among individuals or among tribes or countries) is based on justice and cooperation in achieving that goal and preventing oppression. The Holy Qur’an encourages humanity to perform this task in the following general orders and commands:
[5:2] Al-Māidah-Chapterالْمَآئِدَة
وَ تَعَاوَنُوۡا عَلَی الۡبِرِّ وَ التَّقۡوٰی ۪ وَ لَا تَعَاوَنُوۡا عَلَی الۡاِثۡمِ وَ الۡعُدۡوَانِ ۪ وَ اتَّقُوا اللّٰہَ ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰہَ شَدِیۡدُ الۡعِقَابِ ﴿۲﴾
And always support one another in (the work of) righteousness and piety, but do not become accomplices in (work of) sin and transgression. And fear Allah persistently. Indeed, Allah awards severe punishment (to those who disobey and defy).
Every oppression that is done against a human being is like it has happened to all of humanity. The Holy Qur’an explains this unity of interest and responsibility with the following equation:
[5:32] Al-Māidah-Chapterالْمَآئِدَة
“مِنۡ اَجۡلِ ذٰلِکَۛؔ کَتَبۡنَا عَلٰی بَنِیۡۤ اِسۡرَآءِیۡلَ اَنَّہٗ مَنۡ قَتَلَ نَفۡسًۢا بِغَیۡرِ نَفۡسٍ اَوۡ فَسَادٍ فِی الۡاَرۡضِ فَکَاَنَّمَا قَتَلَ النَّاسَ جَمِیۡعًا ؕ وَ مَنۡ اَحۡیَاہَا فَکَاَنَّمَاۤ اَحۡیَا النَّاسَ جَمِیۡعًا ؕ وَ لَقَدۡ جَآءَتۡہُمۡ رُسُلُنَا بِالۡبَیِّنٰتِ ۫ ثُمَّ اِنَّ کَثِیۡرًا مِّنۡہُمۡ بَعۡدَ ذٰلِکَ فِی الۡاَرۡضِ لَمُسۡرِفُوۡنَ ﴿۳۲﴾
On account of this, we prescribed (this commandment in the Torah sent down) to the Children of Israel that whoever killed a person (unjustly), except as a punishment for murder or for (spreading) disorder in the land, it would be as if he killed all the people (of society); and whoever (saved him from unjust murder and) made him survive, it would be as if he saved the lives of all the people (of society, i.e., he rescued the collective system of human life). And indeed, Our Messengers came to them with evident signs. Yet, even after that, the majority from amongst these people are certainly those who commit excesses in the land.
Every Muslim is not only obliged to cooperate in preventing injustice, but also to cooperate in order to prevent wrongdoing, and a clear example of the prevention of oppression can be seen in the war rules of Islam; Because one of the important rules of jihad is to shelter a person who has surrendered, explaining that the purpose of jihad and defense is not killing and bloodshed, but a reasonable and legitimate defense, so when the enemy surrenders, he cannot be attacked. In completing the result of jihad, we can refer to the separation and explanation of the groups of truth from falsehood, and this noble verse, to indicate this difference.
“لِیَمِیۡزَ اللّٰہُ الۡخَبِیۡثَ مِنَ الطَّیِّبِ وَ یَجۡعَلَ الۡخَبِیۡثَ بَعۡضَہٗ عَلٰی بَعۡضٍ فَیَرۡکُمَہٗ جَمِیۡعًا فَیَجۡعَلَہٗ فِیۡ جَہَنَّمَ ؕ اُولٰٓئِکَ ہُمُ الۡخٰسِرُوۡنَ ﴿۳۷﴾
So that Allah separates the impious from the pious and puts the impious (i.e., filthy characters) one over the other and heaps them all up together and then casts this (heap) into Hell. It is they who are the losers.
And finally, the main and final purpose of jihad can be considered as the opening of the path of perfection and superior human virtues, which guides human on the path to achieving the hereafter happiness.
Jihad with its virtues and characteristics is a factor in the unity of society against aggressors and disintegrations. Islam uses jihad as a goal to defend all members of society and expel enemies from their homeland; Because with the expulsion of the enemy, human beings are in more freedom of action and choice. In any case, the most important and basic goals of jihad in the Qur’anic view, are the exaltation of the word of God, the revival of religion and revelatory teachings, the return of the greatness of Muslims and the right to choose for the public so that in the shadow of justice, religious and freedom they can learn the path of human perfection Prepare themselves for the Hereafter.
